Director, Oracle Database Administration

***This is a hybrid position but will primarily be onsite 4 days per week.***

Director is responsible for the planning and management of all technical and operational activities associated with Database Administration functions. This individual manages a team of specialists responsible for the technical functions associated with creating and maintaining production databases, performance and tuning analysis, capacity planning, workload modeling and prediction, long-term strategic planning, support and optimization, problem resolution tracking, and software upgrades.

Director of Oracle Database Administration Required Skills

 
  • Requires 7+ years of technical experience in database administration with 3+ years of management experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or related discipline) or equivalent experience
  • Previous hands-on experience in a 24-7 support environment is a must.
  • In-depth experience in the design, administration, programming and support of major database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2) in one or more computing environments (e.g., Unix, Windows, Linux).
  • Other database systems in use are Informix and Postgres. These are a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of database administration, programming and systems analysis procedures.
  • Must be an expert (5+ years) in Oracle, with the following specific skill sets:
    • Oracle DB 10G/11G/12C/18C/19C/21C
    • Heavy Performance Tuning & Optimization
    • Data Replication & Logical Design
    • Experience utilizing tools such as GoldenGate and Data Guard
    • Hands-on experience in development tools like PL/SQL & T/SQL (stored procedures & triggers), SQL Plus, Forms, Reports, Discoverer and UNIX shell scripting.
    • Experience in analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and tuning of database components using a specific DBMS and other related products. 
    • Should have experience in Data Designing and Management tools like Erwin, Toad and DataGrids controls.
    • Experienced in Database backup using RMAN with TSM and/or Netbackup, RAC, OEM Grid Control, ASM, UNIX/Linux Shell Script, etc.
    • Creating, testing and executing data management scripts (extract, transform, load functions includes parsing the data, assigning metadata values, quarantining if applicable, enhancing the data, and providing change lists); data formats include Oracle export files, flat files, and XML
  • Experience in a large enterprise environment performing OLTP functions
  • Cluster / load balance environment management
  • Query Index tuning
  • Specialized optimization
  • Scripting
  • High Transaction environment optimization with Indexed Views
  • Query creation optimization
  • Data Normalization
  • Data Warehousing / archiving
  • Must possess good communication skills with the ability to interface with clients
  • Must be able to accurately estimate project resources and accurately project completion timelines
  • Undergraduate degree in computer programming or IT, or significant related work experience.
  • Experience creating design specifications and system documentation.
  • Excellent knowledge of business objectives and strategies.
  • Excellent time management, communications, decision making, presentation, human relations and organization skills.
  • Able to resolve problems in a timely manner. Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
Director of Oracle Database Administration Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Controls the activities related to database planning and development.
  • Establishes policies and procedures pertaining to database management, security, maintenance and utilization.
    • Sets and monitors standards.
    • Monitors database efficiency and implements improvements.
    • Evaluates vendor products in light of company needs.
    • Interacts with peers to determine database software and hardware needs.
  • Manages the activities of database administration
    • Coordinates the administration of the database systems.
    • Evaluates progress and results regarding unit's activities and goal attainment.
    • Ensures that staff is adequately trained and responsive to end user needs.
    • Manages personnel activities of staff (i.e., hires, fires, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, disciplines as necessary).
  • Confers with appropriate managers regarding problems with and capabilities of databases.
    • Develops a long-range plan for database systems.
    • Ensures that databases support the appropriate systems and are properly maintained.
    • Communicates status of projects to senior management.
    • Advises managers on database concepts and functional capabilities.
    • Recommends systems changes to management.
